“Hip-Hop Mayor” Accepts Plea
Kwame Kilpatrick, the so-called “Hip-Hop Mayor”, accepted a plea deal and will resign as Mayor of Detroit. Kilpatrick pled guilty to obstruction of justice and perjury. As part of the deal, Kilpatrick will pay $1 million in fines, serve four months in jail, and remain on probation for five years. He is also restricted from running for public office for five years. Kilpatrick was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice, misuse of office, and faced a maximum of 15 years imprisonment.
